#BorneoTrip

I was lucky to be able to go to Pangkalan Bun in Central Kalimantan (and Pontianak in West Kalimantan, but that's another story). I went there with my partner and fellow bloggers & writers. We visited Tanjung Puting, the haven and research center for orangutans, and other heavenly places. To me, it's a trip of a lifetime.

I am planning on writing a book about my journey, but in the mean time I'm going to share bits from my trip and some insights that I got from the #BorneoTrip.

The schedule (not all members of the group experience the whole thing, some are optional):

Day 1

Journey from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta to Iskandar Airport in Pangkalan Bun.

Kumai Dock, to watch traditional dance and silat (traditional martial arts) performance.

Trip to Tanjung Harapan post in Tanjung Puting, using kelotok boat.

Visiting the feeding site in Tanjung Harapan.

Visiting Sei Sekonyer Village.

Candlelight dinner in kelotok boat.

Spending the night at Rimba Eco Lodge.

Day 2

Visiting Pondok Tanggui Rehabilitation Center

Journey to Camp Leakey, visiting the information center and feeding site here.

Spending the night at kelotok boat.

Day 3

Transit at Pesalat to plant some trees.

Journey to Tanjung Keluang.

Visiting Kubu Village.

Visiting Tanjung Keluang and releasing baby sea turtles to the sea.

Night trek to observe the sea turtles.

Barbeque.

Spending the night at kelotok boat.

Day 4

Journey to Kubu Village then to Yayorin--Yayasan Orangutan Indonesia).

After lunch, off to the hotel to check in.

Day tour to buy souvenirs and such.

Spending the night at the hotel.

Day 5

Visiting Istana Kuning (Yellow Castle)

City tour

Off to Pontianak and spending the night at the hotel there. (This was unplanned since our plane in Pangkalan Bun had some kind of damage, and we decided it would be better to go to a bigger city to ensure we'd have more options to go to Jakarta later.)

Day 6

Visiting Khatulistiwa Monument in Pontianak.

Lunch in a floating restaurant in Kapuas River.

Returning to Jakarta. Bye-bye, Borneo!
